Will Hinton – Pottery & Ceramics (Louisburg, NC)
Local artist Will Hinton has been a fixture in the Louisburg art scene for over four decades. A former Professor of Visual Art at Louisburg College (1983–2023), he specialized in drawing and ceramics and also served as curator for the college gallery. Now retired with Emeritus status, Hinton works full-time in his ceramics studio, crafting both intimate functional pieces and larger sculptural works willhintonart.com.
His pottery reflects a continuous exploration of texture, pattern, and nature—often inspired by the rural landscapes of northeastern North Carolina. He begins with detailed graphite and colored-pencil drawings, then evolves them into clay forms through processes like carving, bending, and pressing, striving to maintain both resilience and vulnerability in his vessels .
Beyond the studio, Hinton is known for significant public art projects in Louisburg, including large-scale murals and a tile mosaic wall featuring North Carolina’s motto. These community-centered works reveal his deep commitment to storytelling, place-making, and the interconnectedness of art and people.
